Approaching
God together
in Worship:
We gather together on Sunday mornings at 10:15 a.m. for worship. This is the
central portion of our life together. Our mission and our fellowship are empowered
by the time we spend together worshipping God. We find our identity and vision
as we approach God together and open ourselves to the Holy Spirit in praise,
prayer and Word.
The pattern we follow in our worship
models itself on our theological understanding of how we as God's beloved children
approach the God who desires a relationship with us. We move through worship
into response.
Our worship does not end with the benediction, but is continued in our lives
and our response to the Word we hear on Sunday mornings.
The following is a description of our worship:
The Gathering of
God's People
As we gather together for worship we offer the opportunity to quietly reflect
to prepare our hearts for worship. We are then welcomed into worship and informed
in the announcements of worship notes and church calendar information.
Entering into
Worship through Praise
We begin our worship by recognizing the greatness of God by offering our praise.
Our music in this section is uplifting and oriented towards celebrating who
God is and how God has worked and is working in this world. We then recognize
who we are as well as we confess our sins in silence or unison prayer and call
upon the grace of Jesus Christ. The Good News is then shared with an assurance
of God's love and forgiveness.
Hearing the
Word of God
Having given praise to God and opened ourselves to hear his Word to us by confessing
our sins we turn our ears, hearts and minds to listen to him through the reading
of God's Word. Usually there is a reading from both the Old and New Testaments
as directed by the Revised Common Lectionary used by many denominations.
A children's sermon and offering follows the readings before they are dismissed
for Sunday School.
Our Prayers
and Offerings to God
Having heard the reading of the Scriptures, we take time to respond to his Word
with Words and actions of our own. We offer up the prayers of the people by
giving thanks to God for his blessings in our lives, lifting up the needs of
our congregation and the world and closing with the Lord's Prayer. We then offer
our lives and resources to God through the giving of our monetary gifts. We
offer our gifts in response to God's great gift to us in the death and resurrection
of Jesus Christ.
The Proclamation
of the Word
God continues to speak to us as we hear a sermon preached by our pastor. The
sermons are bible based and offer direction and challenges in the daily living
out of our faith. We believe that the Holy Spirit works in our lives as we open
our hearts and minds to hear God's Word as it is preached.
Going Forth
to Live our Faith
We are called to respond to God's word, not just hear it. So, we close our worship
service with a response to God's word. Most often this is done through a hymn
and/or prayer. On the first Sunday of the month, we take part in the sacrament
of Holy Communion. The benediction serves as a blessing and a charge to go forth
and be a blessing in the world by living the faith that God has challenged us
to live in the morning worship.
Our worship services are always followed with a time of fellowship as a church
family.
Please join us for a worship service and for fellowship, we would love to worship
with you.
